Thinking of buying a new motorcycle: Looking at options

I have been looking at motorcycles for a while now. I have had a lot of different bikes that interest me. For a while, the Harley Softtail Heritage was the only bike I would consider. Then, I was only interested in Honda Valkyrie motorcycles because they have a flat 6 engine, which sounds amazing with the 6 into 6 Cobra or Two Brothers Racing pipes.

Now, my interest is back to the KTM 1090, 1190, and 1290 -- all 100+ horsepower bikes designed to be ridden like dirt bikes. These bikes don't have the road manners that street-orientated adventure bikes have. This is why I have not pulled the trigger and bought one.

Example: The KTM does not come with a motorcycle throttle lock, which makes long trips on interstate highway roads not much fun. The KTM also comes with dirt / knobby tires, which are not confidence inspiring on the road. Compare that with a BMW or Triumph. Both those bikes have the road-specific features.

That said, the KTM will blow the doors off them in terms of power. The 1290 is north of 150+ horsepower, which is out of control for a bike that resembles a dirtbike.
